In the wake of the ongoing row over the “Rashtrapatni” remark, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said on Saturday that it was a slip of the tongue and that Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had no ill intentions. The MP for Thiruvananthapuram said we need to move on, adding that there were much bigger problems in the country.

“Before entering Parliament, Adhir said he made a mistake, it was a slip and he had no bad intentions. But he was not allowed to speak. When someone asks time before Ques Hr, the President tells them to sit down and that they I will have time during Zero Hr,” Tharoor said.

He added, “But when Smriti Irani started speaking, no one stopped her. She spoke for 10 minutes. They should have allowed the person, whose name came up, to answer. We are not satisfied. what happened. Adhir tried to answer. twice but his microphone was not on. What can we say?”

“I think we should drop the case. It’s not a problem, it has nothing to do with government corruption or negligence. A man, whose Hindi may be like mine , made a mistake. He accepted it, let’s move on. There are much bigger problems in the country,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chowdhary said he mistakenly used the term “Rashtrapatni” for President Murmu and the ruling party was deliberately trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.

“I used the word ‘rashtrapatni’ inadvertently only once and that was a slip. I never meant to disrespect the president,” he told reporters outside parliament.

“What should I do? I said it and realized that I had said the wrong word. I even sought out journalists to ask them not to focus on it. However, I did not found,” Chowdhury said.

He later said, “I’m Bengali and not used to Hindi. I made a mistake, I agree.”

Chowdhury’s “Rashtrapatni” remark led to a political storm with Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha facing disruption.
