On Monday, MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki spotlighted Hispanic voters fleeing the Democratic Party, and a Progressive Network guest said modern Democrats are too “socially liberal” for working-class Latinos.
“One of the big stories that came out of the 2020 election was the shift we saw in the Hispanic vote,” Kornacki told MSNBC viewers before noting that Democratic presidential candidates lost 17% of their votes. their margin in the Hispanic vote from 2016 to 2020.
“You know what? The trend seems to be continuing in 2022, what you’re looking at here is the average of all the polls we’ve released in the last three months looking at the Hispanic vote,” Kornacki continued as an on-screen monitor revealed that the Democrats now held just a 13-point advantage over the Hispanics.
“What is happening here?” asked Kornacki.
MEDIA TAKES NOTICE HISPANICS ARE LEAVING DEMOCRATIC PARTY WITH ‘ONCE IN A GENERATION’ POLITICAL REALIGNMENT
MSNBC then featured Ruy Teixeira, a nonresident senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, who wrote in 2002 that Hispanic support could make Democrats the “party of the 21st century.” He has changed his mind over the past 20 years because he feels working-class and Hispanic voters are losing interest in liberal ideology.
“There’s something going on that’s taking them away from the Democrats… First, I think the Democrats are assuming that Hispanics, because they’re ‘people of color,’ were kind of all aware of this racial reckoning that we have had in the summer of 2020 around George Floyd, and generally they can be treated as a very, very sensitive group about these race issues, very sensitive to the kinds of dialogue around that,” Teixeira said.
“Very sensitive on the issue of immigration, for example, on which the Democrats always thought they had a big advantage, and I think in the process the Democrats lost the thread,” Teixeira continued. “Hispanic voters are normal voters. They are voters who care about upward mobility, jobs, health care, their communities, their children, effective schools, public safety. voters who thought the Democrats could be counted on to do a good job in those regards…all of that got lost, I think, in the transition from 2016 to 2020.”
5 REASONS WHY THE LEFT IS LOSING LATINOS
Teixeira said Democrats have become “much more socially liberal,” which doesn’t always play down to Hispanic voters.
Teixeira’s comments echoed what Giancarlo Sopo, who led Hispanic advertising and the rapid response effort for former President Donald Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign, recently told Fox News Digital.

He called what is happening “a unique kind of political realignment in a generation,” saying that working-class Hispanic voters simply have nothing in common with the modern “woke” Democrat. Sopo added that it’s critical to consider that the Hispanic poverty rate has dropped significantly in recent years as members of the community start new small businesses in droves.
“We are ambitious people. We want to work hard. We came to this country to be successful. Also, I think during this same period, it would be fair to say that the Democratic Party is either overeducated or undereducated, depending on the way you look at you know, the elites have taken over the party, and it’s hard to find more different groups than a woke white Democrat and your average Hispanic,” Sopo told Fox News Digital.

“They’re economically different. The social and cultural values are very different. Your average Hispanic tends to be a lot more religious and traditional in their cultural views than your average Democrat. So I think if you understand the cultural transformation that we have seen on Democrats, where they’ve become much more radicalized, and at the same time Hispanics… don’t just believe in the American dream. We personify it,” Sopo continued. just doesn’t appeal to Hispanics.”
