Pub and Politics

Local Liberal Democrats have been holding regular meetings to discuss politics over a pint.

The last “pub and politics” session was held on Wednesday 8th February 2017 at The Fern Ticket.

Details for the next session will be published shortly.

The meetings usually take place in a local pub on the first Tuesday or Wednesday of the month.

As Dr Anthony Lynch explains “Of course we do not agree all the time, but the ideas that flow from the discussions add I think to the pool of knowledge that keeps us interested and alive in our political lives”.

In June, the first topic under discussion was "Wages" - do some people earn too much, is the Living Wage a good idea, is it properly enforced etc etc.

In April, the subject was "What kind  of society do I want to create and how would it be different from the society we have today". Liz Boait and Heather Dalziel presented their visions for the future and this was followed by a general discussion on the issues raised - how to make life fairer for everyone, how to improve people’s chances in life, how to bring about change at a time when party politics is losing popularity etc etc

The March event was cheerful and constructive with discussions on

Previous subjects have included Trident, the House of Lords, Air Strikes in Syria, “fracking” in the Forest of Dean, Europe, Tim Farron versus or with Corbyn, tax, student debt and tenancy law.
